Later on, he bagen taking academic vocal and music lessons by various masters and knowledgeable teachers in Kabul such as Nooragha Sarmadi. His singing covers a number of different styles from Contemporary to Ghazals and Hindi music. As a multi-instrumentalist musician he is fluent on playing Harmonica, Dholak, Rubaab and Tabla.
Farhad Shams wrote and composed most of his own tunes such as “Dam Lab Labe Dalaan”, “Naghmae Asrat”, “Ballah Dokhtar”, “De Miney Raaz”, “Yaad” and many more. He also covered new version of some renown songs including “Ba Eshqe Tu Kardam”, “Qadake Beland” and “Matlabe Dosti”.
As a composer, lyricist and performer his popularity raised in recent years among his fans by his unique and successful performances. In 2009 Farhad won The Big Apple Music Award NY in the category “Best balad singer of Afghanistan”.
Farhad leaved Afghanistan in early 1990’s and lives currently in Cologne/Germany.
